One of the UK’s leading professional Clinical Hypnotherapy training courses, combining theoretical knowledge, practical therapeutic skills and ethical professional practice. Graduates use the designating letters PDCH and may apply for CNHC membership.

Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy

Our hybrid teaching model means live online students attend the same session, at the same time, as the students in the room — not a recording, and not a separate cohort. Practical work is supervised either way.

Who can apply
We welcome students from a wide variety of professional backgrounds and career stages.
No experience needed
The Practitioner Diploma is open to complete beginners. You do not need any previous experience of hypnosis or related subjects.
An interview first
Because hypnotherapy involves working with the public, we ask you to attend an interview with a college officer — in London or by video call.
Over 18
You must be over 18, meet our English language requirements, and be physically and emotionally able to complete the course.

Frequently asked questions
Which course should I start with?
If you are new to hypnotherapy, the Practitioner Diploma is the route into professional practice. If you already hold a healthcare qualification at BSc (Hons) level or equivalent, the Medical Diploma lets you add hypnosis to your existing clinical role. Advanced Short Courses and Masterclasses are for practitioners who are already qualified.
Do I need any prior experience of hypnosis?
Not for the Practitioner Diploma. Our students come from commerce, industry, healthcare, therapy and domestic life, and many go on to practise full-time or part-time to supplement their income. The Advanced Short Courses and Masterclasses do require an existing qualification.
How much time will I need outside the teaching weekends?
In addition to classroom hours, an essential part of the Diploma is an independent guided study programme using our online e-learning facility, plus tasks and assignments, self-directed research and revision, and a minimum of four personal tutorials.
Is studying online the same as being in the room?
You attend the same live session at the same time either way. Practice sessions are always overseen by your lecturer or supervisor, in the classroom or online.
Do I have to join a professional association?
Yes. In accordance with good ethical practice it is mandatory to join ThinkTree Hub or the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis as a Student Member while you train. Practitioner Diploma graduates may also apply for CNHC membership.
What about insurance and additional costs?
Professional indemnity insurance is required while training and in practice; discounted cover is available through your membership. Examination fees (£225 for the Practitioner Diploma, £195 for the Medical Diploma) and tutorial fees of £30 per student per hour are payable separately.
